Result!

Writer: Vanessa CooperVanessa Cooper

They say patience is a virtue though I do not always find it easy to practice. After erasing lines, angles, land boundaries and cops many times, I finally have a canalarised Warwick Castle.

The images below are a typical style of canal art castle, the real Warwick Castle and the black and white one is the section I focussed on for the project.

I can laugh now (but I didn't at the time!) because I asked my husband for some help with my first draft so I could get the angles right, but he just couldn't get the concept of simplicity over factual architectural accuracy. For instance, he pointed out that Warwick Castle doesn't have a bridge to it, that the sections I had chosen didn't have doors in and so on. Try as I might to explain how simple canal art is, and that I was using the images for inspiration, he was having none of it! 😂

Anyway, I got there in the end. I hope I've managed to capture enough of the real thing for people to see where my inspiration came from at least.

Let me know your thoughts.

This is the design that I will be teaching at Brook Arts Hub, Shottery on 15 March - it will be a full day and it would be great to see you there. If you'd like to join me head to my Workshops page to book your place here.

Until next time 🙂
